Peach Pie Contest Wrap-Up: Thank You!
August 4, 2014
We hope everyone enjoyed the 2014 Perfect Peach Pie Contest at Riverview Farmers Market as much as we did!
Ten peach pies and cobblers were entered in the contest and received a detailed and careful judging by our panel of four experts. We’re very grateful to our judges: Kern Weissman of Riverview Neighborhood Association, Kenneth Fields of Orange and Olive Caterers, Leslie Carrington of Jersey City Eats, and Fidel Hernandez of Buster’s NYC Spatinental Cuisine.
Congratulations to our winners! They’re pictured above, holding peaches at the Alstede Farms tent. They are (left to right):
Third Prize: Jill Davis, for her Peaches and Cream Cobbler
Second Prize: Tatiana Smith, for her City Garden Crumble Peach Pie
First Prize: Janet Jeun-Gourley, for her Peach and Pistachio Pie with Mascarpone Cheese Filling (Janet will compete in the regional competition representing Riverview Farmers Market and Husdon County)
Joining them are Jersey City Councilman-at-large Dan Riviera (at far left) and Stacy Flanagan, Health & Human Services, City of Jersey City (at far right).
Thanks to everyone who entered the contest! All the desserts you made were delicious.
Many thanks to the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council for including the Riverview Farmers Market as the only Hudson County venue in its statewide Perfect Peach Pie Contest. We’re also appreciative to the Riverview Neighborhood Association and the City of Jersey City for their ongoing support of this Market and this event.
We also want to thank The Benson Ridge Project and Twiddlin’ Thumbs for providing live musical entertainment. Music in the Park is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Thomas A. DeGise, County Executive, and the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Last but definitely not least, we’re very grateful to our volunteers for this event, and to all our amazing vendors for serving up specialty peach items at their tables.
Enjoy the rest of peach season! We’ll see you again soon at the Market.
