Call for Proposals: 2015 Artist-in-Residency program

Day of the Dead Collage

Farms in the Heights is happy to announce its first Artist-in-Residence program as part of a local annual Day of the Dead Celebration. The program encompasses an exhibition of one to five works as well as the opportunity to give two public presentations at the Riverview Farmers Market and to conduct a children’s workshop.

Local artists are invited to submit proposals for this pilot season of the program. For full information, please click here.

JC Fridays in The Heights: September 5, 2014

JC Fridays is a city-wide celebration of the arts organized by Art House Productions. We’re excited to be able to recommend the following events happening in our very own neighborhood of Jersey City Heights on Friday, September 5th!

12pm-5pm LA RUMBA’S CAFE presents visual art at Rumba’s.

Come check out the Cuban art and sample some of Cuba’s favorite dishes such as A Cuban sandwich, pork sandwich, or cod fish with potatoes at the best Cuban café in Jersey City Heights. 513 Central Ave (at North St.), 201-216-9655

5:30pm-7:30pm JERSEY CITY RESERVOIR PRESERVATION ALLIANCE presents “Art! Music! Nature! At the Reservoir.”

Eco-based art activities for adults and kids including:

Photographic exploration through the Reservoir with photo journalist Trix Rosen and environmentalist Steve Latham. Plein air pastel drawing or bring your own medium for an evening of free expression at our urban oasis. Microscopic digital photography & phragmites frame making conducted by the PS 28 Project Reservoir Team and music provided by “The Sensational Country Blues Wonders!” 201 Central Ave aka Pershing Plaza (at Summit Ave.), 201-259-1800

6pm-11pm WALTER AND MARGO PARKS present “Jersey Statuary Arts & Music.”

The historic Jersey City Statuary building is having its second event, including live music on the patio (weather permitting) and an art exhibition inside. Event presented By Moriah Kinberg.

6pm -7pm: Performance by Classical Pianist Florencia Guzman
7pm – 7:30pm Artist Meet & Greet with Jeankarlos Cruz
7:30pm – 11pm: Performance by Brazilian Bluegrass band, Matuto

6:30pm-9pm THE DISTILLERY GALLERY & ARTSPACE presents “The Children’s Art Show.” 

Every Saturday morning, The Distillery Gallery opens its doors to the young artists of our neighborhood. Local artists teach students (ages 4-10) the study and practice of contemporary art. The Children’s Art show celebrates the work they have created over the course of the year. Come witness their vision! 7 Hutton St (between Palisades/Hutton)

7pm-10pm RIVERVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION & PALISADE LUMBER present “Live at the Lumberyard!” 

A Riverview Arts District event. Live Music accompanied by video art projections in the urban outdoors. Featuring Autumn City, Liam Brown & The Pounds, Underwater Scheme Park and DJ Senor Lunkhead spinning between sets. A Riverview Arts District event. Photographer John Crittenden, a 33-year resident of Heights, celebrates the new R.A.D. as a mecca for all arts with a wide-ranging solo show of his art, theatrical and portrait work.
