Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a volunteer at the Market?

If you’re looking to volunteer at the Riverview Farmers Market on Sundays at Riverview Park, you can either send us an email using the form above, or stop by the Information Tent in the circle during a Market (10am-2pm every Sunday) to express interest. All volunteering should be arranged with the market ahead of time.

What do I do as a volunteer at the Market?

We typically try to coordinate our volunteers into three shifts so they aren’t required to stay the entire duration of the Market if they’re unable. Volunteers on the early shift typically start around 9-9:30am and help with Market setup. This may include decorating, setting up tables and chairs, or helping bring out equipment. A midday shift while the Market is running, would likely include things like helping sell or give away items, directing people to resources or answering questions, or if it’s an event day, we may need extra support organizing people and the flow of traffic. Our end-of-day shift would include activities like light park clean up and break down and storage of equipment.

How much time should I expect to spend as a volunteer?

As you know, the Market runs from 10am-2pm every Sunday. For this reason, we have each Market broken into three shifts: 9-11a, 11-1p and 1-3p. This allows volunteers to sign up for specific time windows instead of staying for the entire day. The first shift largely revolves around setup, the second shift is mostly about coordinating logistics and supporting Market activities, and the last shift mostly supports break down and clean up.

When does the Market need volunteers?

While the Market has staff that support our weekly Markets, we are almost always in need of volunteers during bigger event days like the Peach Pie Festival and our Day of the Dead Celebration. Submitting the form above puts your name on our volunteer call list for those events, but be sure to keep an eye on social media because we also make announcements to recruit volunteers ahead of our bigger days.

What should I bring with me to volunteer at the Market?

We don’t require you to bring anything specific, but we do encourage our volunteers to dress for the weather. Being an outside market, the temperature can be quite warm or even windy and chilly. Depending on the day you signed up, you may also want to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, or sunglasses. We do provide an area to store your things during your shift.

How old do I need to be to volunteer at the Market?

People aged 16 and older are permitted to volunteer at the Market. If a person between the ages of 13-15 is interested in volunteering, they may do so if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. We do not allow for volunteers younger than 13. Since all volunteering should be arranged with the market ahead of time, please indicate the age of the volunteers in form or email.

What if I’m interested in volunteering, but I’m unavailable on Sundays?

If you’re interested in volunteering with the Riverview Farmers Market, but you’re unable to attend the Market on Sundays, there are other ways to get involved! Our Board of Directors is often looking for volunteers to help with event planning, fundraising, sponsorship support, marketing and graphic design, and community partnerships. If you are interested in volunteering in that capacity, please submit the above form and note in the comment box that you’re more interested in volunteering for the Board.
