Wanted: Assistant Market Manager for the RFM!

The Riverview Farmers Market in Jersey City Heights is looking for a motivated, committed Assistant Market Manager who can help the Market Manager and the Farms in the Heights (FITH) Board propel the success of the market forward.
Our market is the first of its kind in our neighborhood and focuses on offering fresh, local food products and quality artisan crafts, along with educational, fun programming on food, fitness, and sustainability. The Market Assistant’s primary responsibility is assisting the Market Manager in ensuring that the market, its programs and its vendors are operating effectively.
The Riverview Farmers Market is seeking an independent contractor for the parttime salaried position of Market Assistant. The Assistant will assist the Market Manager in her oversight of the operation of the market, which is open Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM, from the first weekend in May through the weekend before Thanksgiving.
∙ Assist with market operations from market setup promptly at 9:30 a.m. through takedown at 3:30 p.m.
∙ Review and be aware of the Riverview Farmers Market Rules and Regulations/Code of Conduct
∙ Operate the Market’s SNAP/EBT/Food Stamp Token Program with Market Manager oversight
∙ Develop a positive relationship with vendors and customers
∙ Assist market manager with managing activities for each market
￼∙ Conduct periodic customer counts and vendor sales information
∙ Ensure that market grounds are clean after all vendors leave for the day
∙ Follow instructions from and maintain communications with the Market Manager and the FITH Board President and other board members as needed
∙ Assist with social media posting as directed by market manager or the FITH Board.
∙ Assist manager in handling emergencies that may occur at the market
∙ Wear Riverview Farmers Market T-Shirt each Sunday
∙ Occasional work outside of Market Hours may be required (less than 5/hours week)
∙ Physical ability to lift heavy items (25-40 lbs.)
∙ Self-motivated approach
∙ Prior experience as a Cashier, Bookkeeper or in the Accounting/Business Field
∙ Knowledge of social media, including Facebook and Twitter
∙ Passion for local food, nutrition, health, and wellness
∙ Retail experience
∙ Interest in sustainable agriculture
∙ Excellent communication/ interpersonal skills
∙ Organizational abilities
∙ Positive, flexible attitude
∙ Marketing background
∙ Access to a car
∙ Bi-lingual (Spanish Preferred, but speaking any non-English language prevalent in the Heights is great!)
Salary: The position of Market Assistant pays $1,800 total to oversee each market during the market season.
